PROJECT FOREMAN
The Foreman is responsible for both supervisory tasks as well as construction work performed in the field. He or she provides direction to field personnel on construction projects, making sure resources are allocated effectively and that tasks are executed safely, on time and on budget.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and apply construction knowledge to build the project correctly.
- Instruct and train field staff in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools, and also in job skills.
- Prepare time sheets and administrative reports.
- Recommend purchase of tools, equipment and material.
- Assist the Safety Director with establishing and maintaining good safety and security practices.
Essential skills and experience
- Minimum of 5 years construction experience.
- Good reading, writing and math skills.
- An eye for precise detail.
- Working knowledge of safety requirements.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to plan work and anticipate project needs.

HEAVY CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT OPERATORS
Operate heavy construction equipment used for site work and utility installation in an efficient, safe manner.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty construction equipment for building construction, roadway construction, grading, excavation and utility work.
- Grade and prepare grounds, parking areas and driveways, using motor-graders, dozers, backhoes and front-end loaders.
- Continuously observe work site and equipment to detect and protect against unsafe or hazardous operating conditions.
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
- Prepare operational reports on equipment.
Essential skill and experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating heavy equipment
- Working knowledge of occupational safety and health rules and regulations.
- Ability to communicate well with supervisors and co-workers.
PIPE LAYERS
Perform skilled pipe fitting work, including laying, fitting and sealing pipe for water, storm lines and wastewater lines.
Job Responsibilities
- Cut, lay and fit pipe for water, storm lines and wastewater systems.
- Install fire hydrants and all sizes of water meters, check and operate valves and related pipe fittings and appurtenances.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, officials, customer departments and the public.
Essential skills and experience
- 2 years’ experience as a pipe layer.
- Considerable knowledge of pipe laying methods, practices and procedures.
- Ability to perform strenuous manual labor as the job requires frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, lifting, moving, and carrying equipment, tools and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
FIELD LABORERS
A Field Laborer is an unskilled to semi-skilled worker who clears and prepares sites for construction projects and the installation of water, storm and sewer lines.
Responsibilities
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
Essential Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous manual labor as the job requires frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, lifting, moving, and carrying equipment, tools and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
EARTHWORK SUPERINTENDENT
The Earthwork Superintendent provides day to day oversight and direction to the foremen and field personnel assigned to on-site construction projects. He or she is responsible for protecting and promoting the interests and values of the company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy responsibilities. The Earthwork Superintendent brings specialized knowledge and experience in executing projects for his or her specialty area.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare for project startup with the General Superintendent and Assistant General Superintendent and Project Manager. Execute project activities as required to meet day-to-day and overall objectives.
- Understand and apply the requirements in project documents with regard to quality control procedures such as testing, shop drawings, material approvals, samples, mock-ups, execution of the work, etc.
- Become familiar with each job estimate for general condition items and follow the direction of the General Superintendent with regard to performing work within the boundaries of the estimate.
- Keep the General Superintendent and Assistant General Superintendent apprised of any change in activity or cost prior to incurring additional time or materials outside of the project scope.
- Provide input on scheduling and placement of production crews. Plan and review the construction project with the General Superintendent, Assistant General Superintendent and Project Manager on a weekly basis. Supervise the scheduling and completion of warranty issues.
- Assist the General Superintendent and Assistant General Superintendent in the preparation of progress schedules, keep them properly updated, and ensure that everything feasible is done for the project to meet the required dates.
- Support the General Superintendent to ensure timely on-site delivery of materials and equipment furnished by the Company and subcontractors.
- Direct and train the foremen and field staff to ensure their continued development by use of performance evaluations, varying assignments, and promoting positive project morale.
- Work with the Safety Director to establish and maintain good safety and security practices for the entire project in accordance with applicable safety codes and regulations.
- Develop final punch lists and ensure all project tasks are completed.
Experience and Essential Skills Required
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ of building construction experience with at least two of those years being in charge of the project in the role of Earthwork
- Experience must include soil stabilization, mass excavation of basements and footings, excavation of ponds and channels, new parking lot grading and clearing.
- Ability to use a laptop and company designated software on a daily basis on the job site
- Experience must be on projects of $50k to $1M dollars or more or equivalent work experience.
Education Required
- High School Diploma or GED required
- OSHA 10 or better
- First Aid/CPR Certified
UTILITIES SUPERINTENDENT

CIVIL CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR
The Estimator is responsible for preparing comprehensive bids for construction projects. This includes quantity take-offs, work scope assessment, cost analysis for lump sum/unit price bids and final bid preparation. He or she prepares preliminary/schematic budgets, detailed conceptual estimates, working drawing estimates, proposal/bid or GMP, CSP, design build estimates, and value engineering alternatives. Additionally, this person participates in the pre-construction process and advises on issues that pose a potential cost and/or schedule problem.
Expected Outcomes
- Obtain business through bid contracts that result in profitable work.
Responsibilities
- Produce and deliver timely, accurate, thorough, and comprehensive proposals.
- Prepare and document project take-off materials and pricing.
- Attend pre-bid and pre-construction conferences, and other meetings as required.
- Evaluate bid documents and material quotes.
- Perform job site visits as needed.
- Understand all pertinent bid documents and project requirements.
- Assist field personnel with problem solving.
- Facilitate the project startup process with the Project Management team.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Five (5) or more years of estimating underground utilities and sitework experience.
- Ideal candidate will have two or more years of field experience.
- Must have working experience with Heavy Bid (HCSS), ProContractor MX or similar on-screen, digitizing software.
- Able to interact effectively at all levels.
- Expert computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
